Elaine Dempsey

Singer, songwriter and performer, Elaine Dempsey blends a background of folk, rock and gospel-blues to create a dynamic vocal and acoustic guitar style truly her own. Elaine performs her own thoughtful originals, as well as hand picked cover tunes in a solo artist setting or with a band. She has also appeared as a duo with Bill "Sputnik" Spooner, principal writer and guitarist and singer for the Tubes.

Having performed in clubs from New York to California and many states in between. Elaine moved to the Bay Area of California from her home in Virginia, with the desire and dedication to write. Her writing bears the heart-felt presence of knowing the pain, joy and struggles of people in her life; as well as providing a source of hope and encouragement. She is a repeat winner in the "Best Song" and "Best Performance" categories of the Northern California Songwriter Association Contests. Performance is second nature to her. It has been said on many occasions that at the end of the evening you feel as if you have experienced an intimate and enjoyable conversation with an old friend. "Her voice will capture you, take you in, and carry you home."

Currently, Elaine performs on both the East and West Coasts. The recent release of her CD "MisELAINEous" through Bo-La-De Productions, and Peace It Together Press was produced by Cole Tate and Adam Berkowitz and recorded at Globe Studio in Mill Valley, CA and at Positive Air Studio in Norfolk, VA, with Michael Mulder. Each of the songs in this compilation have received radio air play from such stations as KFOG in San Francisco, KERA in Dallas, KPFA in Berkley, and WKOC in Norfolk. There was enormous energy and enthusiasm from friends and artists to perform on this project. Musicians from both coasts provided an artistic array of talent and sensitivity. Appearing with Elaine from the East Coast were: Karl Werne, Lawrence Lambert, Michael Mulder, Eddie Williams, Randy Caffee, Robbie Meade, A.J. Long, J.P. Powell. The West Coast band members included Cole Tate, Adam Berkowitz, Scott Beyer, Bill Spooner, Jimmy Fischer, Boris Digg and Stevie Blacke.

For many years Elaine has been and continues to be influenced by the works of Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Richie Havens, John Hiatt, Bruce Hornsby, Marvin Gaye and Janis Joplin. And though her music may remind you of Natilie Merchant, Shawn Colvin, or Melissa Etheridge; her style is very much her own. Her performance is one to attend and this long awaited CD is one to carry home.
